Oleksandr Popov, the head of the Kyiv city state administration, says that this year the city government is introducing financial mechanisms to support young teachers. O. Popov stated this during a meeting with the trade union active of Kyiv teachers.

"Special attention should be paid to stimulating young teachers to work in educational institutions. After all, this is not just a question of helping young specialists, it is a question of the prestige of the profession.

Therefore, in Kyiv, all novice teachers will receive 1,000 hryvnias each, and in addition, a monthly 30 percent bonus to the official salary. Those specialists who received a diploma with honors will receive an additional payment in the amount of 50% of the official salary for three years," the press service of the KMDA quoted O. Popov as saying.

According to him, the introduction of the metropolitan standard of education is impossible without decent social support for teachers and educators, and an increase in the prestige of their profession. «The metropolitan standard of education is not only a high level of education, but also social protection of employees of educational institutions. The status of teachers must correspond to the extremely important tasks that society sets before teachers. Providing decent pay and comfortable working conditions is our main duty.» — stressed the head of KMDA.

O. Popov informed the teachers that the Kyiv budget for 2012 provides 87.5 million hryvnias for the payment of incentive allowances, which is 51 million hryvnias more than in 2011.
